U.S. Passport and Visa Photo Requirements
Each United States Citizen applying for a new U.S. passport, and an applicant applying for a nonimmigrant visa, should present two (2x2 inches= 5x5 cms) colored or black and white photo with a solid white background, taken within the past six months. A "full face" photo is one in which the applicant is facing the camera directly. The applicant should not be looking up or down, or to either side. The head of the applicant including both face and hair should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of chinon top and bottom, and from hair line side-to-side. It is preferable that the ears be exposed. Photos should be printed without borders. Photos taken in front of busy, patterned, or dark background will not be accepted.
