Non-Immigrant Visas

Information On Student And Exchange Visas

To complete your application and schedule an appointment, please follow the four steps detailed on our “How Do I Applyhttp://damascus.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas/untitled.html page.

In addition to the four steps outlined on that page, applicants for student or exchange visas must bring an approved I-20 or DS-2019 form (provided by the university or sponsoring program), receipt of payment of SEVIS I-901 fee http://www.fmjfee.com/ , and a completed DS-158 form http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/79965.pdf.

Arrive on the day of your appointment at the Embassy of the United States with the following documents:

  • Non-refundable application fee of USD $131 (please note fee must be paid in US currency).
  • A passport valid for travel to the United States, valid for more than 6 months
  • A copy of the personal data pages of the passport
  • Fully completed and signed application EVAF forms (printed out as DS-156) for each applicant and DS-157 as explained in step number 3 on the “How Do I Apply” page.
  • A completed DS-158.
  • I-20 for student visas OR DS-2019 for exchange visitors
  • Receipt of payment of SEVIS 1-901 fee
  • One photograph – less than 6 months old and set against a plain light background – for each applicant.
  • All prior passports.
  • Proof of status of any relative living in the 2U.S. (i.e. photocopy of passport or green card)
  • Proof of employment
  • Any document that may support your case and prove your ties in the country of residence.

Before a visa can be issued, all applicants must demonstrate strong social, familial, and economic ties to their country of residence, which compel them to return after a temporary visit to the United States.

Nonimmigrant visa applicants are advised that the United States Government has instituted measures aimed at enhancing background checks on visa applicants. These new measures may result in longer waiting periods to receive visas.  For this reason, the Embassy urges applicants to apply for nonimmigrant visas well in advance of planned travel dates.
